Annual In-Person Courses
Full-day practical In-Person Courses have been held annually in Halifax since 2004. Unfortunately, COVID restrictions forced us to cancel the In-Person Courses in 2020 and 2021. We currently plan to offer the 16th Annual In-Person Course on October 25, 2022. If you wish to register for the Course, complete the Course Registration Form and submit it to wsp@dal.ca. Payment options and details about the Course will be sent to you.
Additionally, we typically (pre-COVID) put on a variety of practical workshops in various locations each year, ranging from 2 hours to 5 days in duration. We welcome inquiries through wsp@dal.ca about holding workshops in other locations. For further information about dates and locations, please contact us.
Annual Remote-Learning Courses
For 2022, the 3rd Annual Remote-Learning Course will be held October 28 – December 16, 2022. The focus of the Course will be on people using two-hand propulsion of manual wheelchairs and, for a few of the more difficult skills, on their caregivers. For each of the 6 weeks of the Course, participants will be provided with asynchronous self-study materials to use at their convenience –readings from the Wheelchair Skills Program Manual, video viewings for those skills on the Wheelchair Skills Program YouTube Channel, a list of skills to be practiced with a spotter and other assignments. On Fridays each week from 2:00-3:00 pm Atlantic Time (except for the November 11 meeting due to Remembrance Day and the November 25 that will be skipped due to Thanksgiving in the US), there will be a real-time (synchronous) Zoom call during which the faculty will be available to discuss the assignments, answer questions and/or demonstrate selected skills as needed. The Zoom meetings will be recorded and made available for those who are unable to attend at the time scheduled. On completion of the Course, participants will have the option of taking the December 15, 2022 Certification Exam at no cost.
If you wish to register for the Course, complete the Course Registration Form and submit it to wsp@dal.ca. Payment options and details about the Course will be sent to you.
